Letter from our President
March 14th, 2017
Howdy folks…Time sure does fly! I can’t believe it’s already March and we have our first show under our belts…We had some wild weather for that first show in March, a little wind, rain mid-day and then sunshine all in one day! I had a great time seeing some familiar faces and meeting a whole lot of new exhibitors too! We have been hard at work planning the new season and we all hope you like the new premium and class changes. I would love some feedback so please feel free to mention what you like or dis-like as it all helps with the Board’s decisions and helps shape the direction our club goes! Without your input and continued support, we simply don’t have a show!
Save the date for the Michael Hoyt Clinic March 19th at 9am at the Desert Riders Arena. Michael is a well-rounded Trainer with vast knowledge on Western riding and Trail. We have 3 spots available last I heard from Bunny Mullins. If you would like to bring a horse the fee is $100 for the entire day. You can also come and observe for $30 dollars. Please contact Bunny Mullins to RSVP at 661-510-0267. We have The Silman 4-H family providing drinks and food for you to purchase through the day, please support them as you are helping with their projects for Fair! :)
We have made a few premium changes to affect the jumping category. We made classes 56 – 59 all Open classes as it confused the judge and he gave me some great feedback after the show was over. We also made some rule changes at the last Board meeting as the office was a bit overwhelmed with all the scratching of classes and exhibitors pre-entering only one class and then adding class after class wanting the pre-entry price. Please read your revised rule book and print yourself a copy to refer to at the shows. We are enforcing the rules as they are presented, if you scratch a class you pay for it unless you switch it to another class with the office two classes prior, that is a long standing rule that was not changed. A new rule as decided by your Board of Directors is if you add classes the day of the show you pay the post entry prices, pre-entries are for your convenience as well as the office to better prepare for the day! I highlighted the new changes in the rules the Board voted to change so you can easily find and review them.
I also really want to clarify when HiDHA can enact a Rain Date. If the show grounds & arena are dry on Saturday or any time before 6am & 8am on Sunday, the show will start as planned. Once the show has started there is no stopping the show unless the show Office Manager, the Judge & your Board of Directors deems it is unsafe to continue. We regret anyone that was inconvenienced by the rain that fell mid-day but that is showing and the weather is unpredictable at best in the Antelope Valley!
Join me in welcoming your 2017 Board of Representatives:
Dawn Surprenant – President, Bunny Mullins – VP, Clydellen Alden – Treasurer, Laurel Surprenant – Secretary, Shelley Hurley, Candace Carrillo, Cheri Marshall, David Rakisits & Bill Cameron.
I would like to wish everyone a continuing Happy Show Season and much success this year. Please be safe and I look forward to hearing from everyone in the near future…
Sincerely, Dawn Surprenant
